When learning a new 3D software it can be hard to find good learning material. Thankfully, Blender has a great community, with a lot of courses and books. In this article we are going to be rating the 5 best Blender guide books.
1. The Complete Guide to Blender Graphics: Computer Modeling & Animation, Fourth Edition
Don’t be turned away by the long title. This is one of the best books for learning Blender on the market. This book goes deep into everything you will ever do in Blender and does a good job explaining it, too. Many books on Blender are short and leave out big topics, but this 1334-page monster is chalk full of information. I would recommend getting this book if you are starting to learn Blender.
2. The Blender Book
The Blender Book takes a different approach to the learning process, by using a written tutorial format. This is very well executed and is great for people who learn by doing. This book is a little shorter with 312 pages, but is well worth taking a look at.
3. Blender Master Class: A Hands-On Guide to Modeling, Sculpting, Materials, and Rendering
This book is a newer issue (2013) and still has all the same principles as in the current versions of Blender. In this book you will explore all aspects of making realistic 3D models, from sculpting to rendering. I would fully recommend it if you are starting Blender, as it is a great book to start with.
4. Mastering Blender
This book does exactly as it says. It helps you master Blender. This book explores more advanced principles of Blender and is definitely not for the Beginner. At 1337 pages this book is very through and will take your modeling to the next level. I would wholeheartedly recommend reading this book if you are already familiar with Blender.
5. Character Development in Blender 2.5
As you can see, this book is a little outdated, but don’t be turned away, for it is one of the best books on character development out there as of right now. This book will guide you through the character development process from beginning to end. From concept sketch to final render. If you are looking at getting into character development with Blender, then I would recommend getting this book.
I hope this list has been helpful in informing your decision on which Blender 3D book to buy. Keep in mind that there are many other good books that are not on this list, so don’t be afraid to look for some on your own too.
